There is more to eating and diets than calories and weight loss. Last week, I was lucky enough to catch Dr. Barry Sears, the creator of the Zone diet, talking about the causes of obesity, on the Dennis Prager Show.
It seems that most people are going about eating and weight loss in a completly narrow viewed way.
While calories do count, many people are not aware of what type of calories they should be consuming, or how the food that they are choosing is affecting their health and weight loss efforts.
Considering the consumption of total calories is a good place to start, and is the basis of the Zone's 30-30-40 system, but it is just the tip of the nutritional iceberg.
Other important factors Dr Sears talked about considering is the quality of calories, how they affect your hormonal and immune system system, and how certain supplements such as fish oil can help your brain and and your body's ability to perform and lose fat, function even better.
If you want to hear more on the same topics Dr Sear covered on the radio show in more detail, the CrossFit Journal has been running a great series recently called Dr. Barry Sears CrossFit Presentation on DIet, Inflamation, Disease, Fish Oil and Athletic Performance.
Be sure to check it out and sign up for the journal if you haven't already.
