It’s been 3 or more years since I have consistently gone to a Globo-Gym.
They hate us CrossFitters. To them, we are “loud, weight dropping, chalk dust leaving, fitness freaks performing dangerous tricks and slinging around too-heavy weights too quickly.”
We usually cause a stir and get kicked out.
Sheesh - wouldn’t want us to upset the commonly accepted training dogma of 3 sets of 10 and running on shiny new expensive machines.
If you want proof, and a laugh, just check out the sign below posted at a Globo-Gym, somewhere in the good and free US of A.
So this weekend I decided to go into enemy territory at a local popular Globo-Gym, Lifestyle Family Fitness, to see how “fitness” in one of these places has evolved.
Nothing has changed.
Well, actually, the machines look so much more expensive. And less functional.
A sea of “functional” equipment, namely machines, occupying over 75% of the clubs floor space.
I really got a laugh at the bicep machine, which I figure would cost about $7k or more. Got to keep those machine manufacturers in business.
While finding a good pull up structure to do my CrossFit workout was hard, they did have two C2 Rowers, which I am sure, are hardly used except by CrossFitters who don’t know about us yet.
I quietly pulled out my chalk, I wasn’t trying to be the quickest CrossFitter to get kicked out of a Globo-Gym, and began my pull-up workout.
Once I jumped down from completing my first round, I turned around and I was greeted by that always funny “dear in headlights’ look by at least 7 guys.
No mean looks yet, thought I would get at least one.
Once I finished my pull up workout, I decided to test the C2, especially since it was a newer model than the one we have and performed a 5k on it. Don’t know if I was just pumped, but I thought my classic C2 was harder.
Tonight, I plan to do Cleans and Dips, CrossFit style. I’ll let you know how it goes.
